Russian billionaire Lebedev warns Germany against investments by wealth funds

'In Germany's place I would not sell anything to a Russian or a Chinese state fund,' he told the weekly newspaper.

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Russian billionaire Alexander Lebedev, who is seeking to buy tour operator Oeger Tours, has warned Germany against investments by Russian sovereign wealth funds because of corruption he says exists in the country's bureaucracy.

In an interview with Welt am Sonntag, Lebedev also expressed sympathy with the German government's aim to control investments by sovereign wealth funds in industries that affect its national security.

'In Germany's place I would not sell anything to a Russian or a Chinese state fund,' he told the weekly newspaper.

Lebedev, whose personal wealth is said by the paper to be more than $3 billion, said he is looking to invest outside of Russia because prices in Russia are soaring due to excessive red tape in the nation.

Lebedev is a major shareholder in Russia's flagship carrier Aeroflot.
