The Vietnamese guy that was in charge of McSame says that after he had been there a couple of weeks and they found out he was the son of an admiral, he got special, "softer" treatment than the anonymous POW's. They hoped to exchange him for some of their POW's, and they knew he'd get press as a VIP. According to the Vietnamese, much of McSame's tale is total, self-aggrandizing crap.

"But I can somehow sympathize with him. He lies to American voters in order to get their support for his presidential election."

So, it should be questioned, seeing how he's using it to heroically, "report for duty".

What a coincidence! Solzhenitsyn also had a drawn-the-cross-in-the-sand experience......just like McCain."

Ouch. So now we have the possibility that McCain is embellishing his POW stories?

It pains me to say it but yes, I think that may be true. Now it could be he read Gulag and Solzhenitsyn's story got intertwined with his.......you know how that is.........or in his mind, he became Solzhenitsyn......the possibilities are fairly numerous. In any case, its clear McCain is a legend in his own mind.
