Computerization. A shelf stocker with a pricing gun and a notepad is not nearly as productive as one with a hand scanner. Preferably a PTC-960. Look at what Telxon helped Walmart put together in their warehouses. The workers there are much more productive than they were before.

And both have to know a lot more than they did in the pricing gun days.
