Chris, > In my experience, people join the military to escape their podunk small town or rural life or situation, to see the world, to live some John Wayne fantasy or for the education or monetary benefits.

I know many exceptions to that rule, Chris. They are all very bright guys who have decided to serve in the military for one reason or another. A lot of them are not from small, rural towns, but from middle and upper-middle class neighborhoods such as right here where I live.

Sure, there are also the education and monetary benefits, but that SHOULD be part of the package and really isn't up for debate.

Moving the war on Islamic extremism to the Middle East is a pretty good strategy in my opinion. Maybe not Iraq, but definitely Afghanistan, which you also oppose.
