George Friedman is part of the old dinosaurs his analysis is based on the premises that EU and the US are interested to confront Russia - which in itself is not true.

Both Russia and EU and to lesser extent the US face other substantial bigger common treats from the southern flanks of Asia which presently are not eminent but demographically will be very evident in 10 to 15 years

Russia chose to be suspicious and refused to integrate in the Western World for a myriad of reasons first which is plain greed of the ruling power who amasses huge riches and throws bones to Russian population at large that do not enjoy the new found prosperity

IN actuality Putin reversed course to the old Russian way since Ivan the Terrible and Peter the Great - which is imperialism in its most brutal way.

The change of hearth of Putin’s tugs that was what surprised every one and the lingering feeling of inferiority combined with Russian megalomania – this what tugs do when they are flush with some one else money – and Russian ruling party has done it since early Tsarist time unrelated to the type of regime
