When I buy groceries, I "transfer" funds to the grocery store, even though I am paying for something rather than just handing over money. I understand your technical point on purchasing/transfer.. But one cannot say that trade imbalance is irrelevant. Let's just say it would better if, instead of purchasing so much of a vital commodity from OPEC, it would serve our "community" better to purchase locally and keep the money here at home in the pockets of our own local economy.
