Just a quick bit of arithmetic shows this:

A 450 mile trip in a Prius at 50 mpg will require 9 gallons of gas. That same trip in my 32 mpg Buick requires 14 gallons. At $4 per gallon that's $20 more fuel cost for me. I'm not sure if the Prius would get 50 mpg at 75 mph, which is the speed of last years trip to WY in my Buick, giving me 32.2 mpg round trip. Is the safety of my bigger car a consideration? And, is my bigger car actually, really, safer than the Prius? I dunno...
