Too not examine the politics behind economic thinking, is to not examine economics. I have found in life, people who get "offended by ideas" are usually small minded people who cannot either stand the truth, defend their ideas, or deal with an idea that shakes their dogmatic and often simplistic view of reality. Sophisticated, and open minded thinkers are never "offended by ideas", even stupid ones. The most they do is sigh sometimes-lol. Can you imagine Plato, Adam Smith or any great thinker sending you emails because they did not like something someone said? Never! Looking into history, who have been the people who hated ideas or the truth. The entire Dark Ages which threatened with death the likes of Gallilao, Coprenicus or Giordano Bruno who was burned at the stake in 1600 because he had the temerity to say the universe might be infinite, dictaorships, despots like Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot or Mao, and people who try to control what people know or think. Plato called debate (the clashing of the minds) the highest endeavor man can engage in. Given the fact that economics has many theories and all are based in politics (which is really just ideas) we severely handicap our ability to understand the truth of any economic system when we do not examine the politcs behind an economic systemst. Capitalism, socialism, Marxism, Austrian economics, Keynesian economics, Adam smith, and thousands of varieties of welfare states are all based on political and social ideology. All of them. No response needed. It was just a rhetorical rant which will probably also upset some people, although I do not believe I have said a single thing above which is even debatable. Cheers
