That photo was taken from a plane. The Tonka Toys Corporation was located in the city of Mound, on the west end of the lake. The city got its name from the prehistoric Indian mounds there. I grew up further out to the west, but some folks from my home town commuted to work at Tonka Toys. Hasbro bought out Tonka Toys in 1991, and I suppose the stuff is made in China now.

Lake Minnetonka is a pretty swank area, with lots of pricy property. A hundred years ago Minneapolis had a major street car system with a line running out to the lake, and ferry connections to resorts and other points on the lake. Parts of the system have been restored...
