This isn't a political thread, but to think more govt intervention is the solution in a short term problem they created, is nothing more than political double talk.

If there were laws broken, enforce the rule of law. If new laws are needed, then let's move forward and see how to make the system better. To argue in front of cameras during an election year over how to pass out a bag full of money to institutions who made loans in which they took too much risk, or to people who failed to uphold their end of a loan contract, is ridiculous.

If I borrow money to buy stocks and I get a margin call, you think anyone is going to bail me out?
