Yeah, McCain is an economic genius... he sure knows about deficit spending.

Republican presidential candidate John McCain reports raising more than $26 million and spending $32 million in July.

McCain financial reports filed with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday show he started August with more than $21 million in the bank.

The deadline for filing July financial reports is midnight Wednesday. Democratic contender Barack Obama had not yet submitted his. Obama's campaign announced last weekend that he had raised more than $51 million in July.

Advertising accounted for McCain's biggest expenditure. He spent nearly $19 million on producing and placing advertising spots.
