India and Pakistan like the idea of a gas pipeline from Iran, but somebody else, someone big with lots of bombs, opposes the idea, and thinks India should only get gas from Turkmenistan. Russia says the US wants bases in Turkmenistan, but the US doesn't confirm. How do you know what's happening ? Well, follow the money: usmilitary.about.com or read the papers: independent-bangladesh.com But really, who in their right mind would run a gas pipeline through Afghanistan under current conditions ? Perhaps the conditions will change given more sacrifices from French troops. wg

Are you sure there is a gas pipeline going through Pakistan to reach India?: "Gas to reach India must go through Pakistan" This map is a few years old, but shows no existing or planned pipeline going through Pakistan to India. Use link below and then Click on "gas pipeline" and "planned gas pipeline" below the map. Click on countries to see the borders. It is difficult for me to imagine India being able to rely upon any gas coming via a pipeline from Pakistan. India would much prefer to get its gas elsewhere for national security purposes. newgreatgame.com
