Most people benefit from heeding your views, right?<g>

I do think McCain really lucked out, and if he can keep his ego in check, could actually win.

If he gets smart (listens to my feedback to his contribution solicitations - LOL) he will announce in St.Paul that he has re thought his views on ANWR and is supporting the Governor of Alaska's request to drill.

I don't think he will; the costs (big flip-flop, being accused of pandering to the right-wing) outweigh the benefits (being 100% for the Republican drilling effort, instead of 80% for it). At least I think that's how the McCain camp must calculate it. McCain said a lot of silly things about drilling in ANWR being like drilling in the Grand Canyon. He doesn't want to hear them replayed now.

His VP pick will be critical

Nothing good has come out of a VP choice since Kennedy got Texas by picking LBJ. Lots of bad things can happen from the choice.
