Not exactly. Strokes different are not impediments as are hurdles and water hazzards.

Simply, the fastest way down the track is the forward run.

Simply, the fastest stroke is the freestyle.

So for swimming to be like track the only stroke would be the freestyle.

You could compare the wall turns to the hurdles. They actually impede. And are a big part of the swim.

Are rhythmic gymnastics the pole dancing of the olympics?
