Some say they may stay with Clinton

SALEM — North Shore Democrats head to Denver next week to nominate Sen. Barack Obama, though some of them still hold deep allegiances to his one-time fierce opponent Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Six of the nine North Shore delegates are supporters of Clinton, who won the Massachusetts primary earlier this year.

After an especially close primary season, some Clinton fans still find it hard to support another Democrat — and that could make for an unusually divided convention.

"There's definitely a lot of speculation as to what will happen," said Salem Mayor Kim Driscoll, one of just two Bay State mayors (Boston's Tom Menino is the other) who will attend the convention. "I'm a very strong Hillary supporter, so I want to put myself into a position where that will be acknowledged at the convention."
