Whats the matter with paying militia members in a violent country?

I never said there was anything the matter with it, just trying to educate inode.

In fact it was a good short term strategy to cut the violence. But like everything in Iraq, there are a lot of moving parts that may make the strategy backfire long term. The US purportedly helped arm and train these folks as well, and unless there is a dramatic shift from the Shiite led government, then these same folks will again become insurgents when the payments stop, as I assume we all agree they must at some point.

That, and rewarding the people who were blowing up US soldiers with IEDs a year ago rubs me the wrong way. But then again as you always say I'm a "liberal" so I just don't understand this stuff.
