For the soft left like ted, if its easy they will be for it. If its hard always against it. Sometimes they prevaricate until the votes are in. For mature non-ted americans, the hardest thing to do is to determine what is in the national interest and then decide whether its worth the cost. While south asia is in turmoil, iraq might turn out to be secular enough to succeed as a nation which in turn give long term benefits to the US. Jury still out. Having just come back from the Vietnam memorial, i will say once again, the cost of vietnam in that silly macho game we played with soviets wasnt worth it as wasnt afganistan to them. Having to prove oneself in the cold war in asian jungles or in mountainous afganistan were disasters for both nations. It would have been much easier if they scored a win in south vietnam while we claimed a victory in afganistan without the two bloody wars.
