<our culture has become so diverse that we are no longer Americans> We were diverse from day one -- that was an is our strength. But in that diversity there was a common denominator -- respect for a set of ideals of equality born of the suffering people endured in Europe where there was no tolerance for diversity of religious belief and where some were above the law. Now we have a new class of people who are intolerant of others and wear their intolerance as a badge of honor, and at the same time they support politicians who given themselves and their agents blanket immunity to break the law. We used to be a country of tolerance, equality and rule of law. In recent years all of that has been lost. And you wonder what has caused the moral decay? The good old days were not marked by white anglo saxon protestant dominance. The good old days are the ones where we could see that the ideal for our society was to rise above those things that divide us, those things that make one group feel like they are naturally superior, those things that made one group feel they had the right to prosper and rule over other groups. You are no better than the person who became an American citizen this morning -- a penniless immigrant working two jobs to feed his family -- a woman in a head scarf or a child with a family tree extending thousands of years back in Asia.
