The economic health of a country and its olympic performance is real, yet a multi-faceted subject. For example, those Jamaican sprinters could have been running under the US flag if they thought this was the place to be financial, economic and politically. Some fine American athletes may have had their homes taken by the banks, or their parents fired from their jobs...so, they would not perform at their best that is if they even qualified for the team.
