Well, I'm an old dog too! :)

By definition, I am a member of the affluent group. Grew up in the group but was taught a very different set of values. Where I was raised it was considered poor taste to flaunt it. Warren Buffett is a man I truly admire not because he made a ton of money but because he is wise. He has great values.

I work in my forest with a chainsaw and a maul. I put up my own firewood every year. Do I have to? No. I love to do it. My home is quite modest but it's just me and my dog. I do not need more. In winter, I live in Montana, my energy bill has never hit $50 in a given month. Probably will this year as the electric utility bumped rates 12% this summer. Where I live electricity is the only option.

My big luxury is having forty acres of pristine forest to work and wander in. I love it beyond measure. And, in addition to the wood it also gives me clean, cool spring water to drink everyday, no charge. But, most importantly it feeds my soul. I am fulfilled and content.

Stuff can become a ball and chain around your neck. Taking care of it can be very stressful. I know. I was a very successful international investment banker in San Francisco. I got caught up in the material world and I was never more discontent and out of balance.

For me, less is more. I've tried the other and I don't care for it. I do enjoy knowing that I can have whatever I want. And, I enjoy knowing that, when I croak, some fine charities are going to make out like bandits and they don't even know it! :)
