Sustained efforts in regards to taxation and economic policies linger well into the years of succeeding administrations. It is, therefore, not so much what one administration does that effects trends over years, as it the collective actions of congress over many years and between administrations.

However, between the Republicans and the Democrats there is little substantive difference anyway. They both want to spend money and grow a larger government. Republicans prefer to borrow from the Fed to pay these costs, while Democrats prefer to raise money through taxation. The only other difference is in how the money is spent - Republicans for the benefit of business interests and defense, Democrats on social causes. Overall, they are both guilty for the current mess.

What this country really needs, in my opinion, is entirely different approaches to government and economic policy.
