Depends on the strike lenght of the veins system.

"Assuming 12-16 ounces to the ton and widths of 2-3 ft would it take a lot of feet of intercepted veins to get to 50,000 tons?"

Learn to work it out yourself, Tom! Quartz is usually going to weigh one ton per 12.5 cubic feet. How far apart are the levels? One must assume that they did not mine down from the 5th level (stope up from the level and let the ore flow by gravity to the level and haul it out). Assume levels are 125 feet apart. what length of vein is req'd?

Let length of vein be L

L x 3 feet wide x 125 feet high/12.5 = 50,000

30 L = 50,000

L = 1667 feet

Is there ore below the 6th level? Should be some there also. Depending on what depth you assume, the length will change also.
