You never know what will stick. While I prefer if it is big and obvious, those things often don't do the trick. Sometimes it is the little things, and in particular how the candidate reacts, that makes the difference. Take George Allen. His "macaca moment" could have been just a small bump in the road. Embarrassing, but he could have put it behind him. However, he chose to dance and wave his fans and blame it on something else.

That is what made it a career killer.
