Is it out of sheer vengeance? When McCain runs constantly on being a war hero, he makes his record fair game.

Without the image of him as a war hero, he has very little.

There is a significant difference between accusing McCain of having crashed three very expensive planes [fact] and accusing Obama of being Muslim and foreign born [smears].*

Only sociopaths and ideologues can't see the difference.

*Being Muslim shouldn't be a smear but it is in these disunited states
