In the context, they did.

Lieberman was presented an opportunity to distance the campaign from the racist advertisement and didn't take it. Had he not supported the racist ad, it would undoubtedly have been better to condemn it.

It was a racist ad supported by the Democratic candidates. Don't know how it can be clearer. It was the most offensive advertisement I've ever seen in a presidential campaign.

Yes you do. Unless, of course, you are a Republican. In which case you have "plausible deniability"...
