The status of the VP is sort of ambiguous, and if vested with any power, abuses are very possible. Look at Cheney. He is making the claim that no one has supervision over his office. That is totally unacceptable in a putative democracy.

He was one of the architects of the bankruptcy bill, for one thing. It was one of the most egregiously awful bills I've ever seen pass.
