I think one of the biggest sources of inequality in our country is age. People in their 40's and 50's make a lot more than people in their 20's and they have much more in the way of assets.

Another big source of inequality is education. People who don't get much education suffer income-wise as a result of that. Those who pursue some careers in some fields (engineering, business, medicine) make a lot more than people who pursue other less numerative careers (education for instance).

Efforts to reduce inequality inevitably involve punishing people for seeking and achieving success. That is a bad idea. Instead of worrying about inequality (pulling everyone down to a common level) we should make it easier for people to pull themselves up. We should especially try to break the public education monopoly in our major cities.
