Iran needs to be engaged. Levy's view is more or less my view. However i am less sanguine about irans regime than Levy. I dont think they are suicidal but they are unstable and they should not have nukes at this time. But a military solution can only be undertaken by the US, not israel, and i think that would be just as counterproductive as an israeli move. We need to separate iran from al quaeda in our thinking and make joint cause with them against wahabists who are just as much their enemy as ours. To beat al quada, you need to beat them not only in the middle east but in south asia and in a world where pakistan is unreliable having iranian support would not be a bad thing.
