Clinton didn't have FP experience. Bush 43 didn't have FP experience. Some would claim Reagan didn't, but that really isn't quite true as Reagan had been intensively studying, speaking, and writing about FP since the early 60s.

But what is really important is that a president understand the process of negotiating. Probably the most important single skill, because he is negotiating with EVERYONE.

And Obama lacks ANY experience in this area, while Bush, Clinton, Bush 41, Reagan, all the way back, have had substantial experience.

It is a very serious thing to turn over the reigns of the country to someone who has absolutely no experience in dealing with Congress, in dealing with foreign governments, in dealing with states, really NOBODY.

Now, I'm not saying Obama can't be a great president. I'm just saying that it is a huge gamble to take with a great country to roll the dice on a rank amateur with no track record, whatsoever.
