I thought the girlfriend and the accounts were explained during the campaign - maybe not to everyone's satisfaction, of course. They will find something negative to say no matter whom McCain chooses. It may be that for McCain the politically smart thing would be to appeal to centrist undecideds and Democrats, who may not be happy with Obama and need something to rationalize their inclination to go Republican. As I recall, Rudy didn't do to badly with the religious right. He promised that his personal beliefs would not be a decisive factor - and he is a trustworthy man.
