Their model is China (just ask Obama), so this presumption isn't too far-fetched.

It really isn't. While to some of us the practice is sub-human, that really isn't an apt description -- it does happen, routinely.

At the time my wife was pregnant with our first child, so was one of our best friends. The friend learned, a year after the baby was born, that the child was severely affected by CP. Long story short, she could never walk or talk and required 100% care by the parents, but she DOES have an excellent mind and was thus able to attend school.

When this happened, years ago, I often contrasted their situation with ours, and knew that I would never have been strong enough to deal with it. This couple committed their entire lives to making this child's life, such as it is, the best it could be.

We eventually lost touch with them, but a few years ago reconnected. I was somewhat amazed to find that the daughter is literally the light of their lives. They were just as proud of her as I am of my daughter -- the accomplishments are radically different, but hers to them are just as big as my daughter's are to us.

You have to be really thoughtful and careful before discounting the value of an innocent life. Even if you're talking about 2 lb babies.
