Depends on what is your definition for "sustainable".

Here are some data (average annual GDP growth rate in China):

1953-----1959: 10%
1960-----1977: 4%
1978-----1985: 9%
1986-----1992: 10%
1993-----1999: 10%

2000: 8%
2001: 7.3%
2002: 8%
2003: 10%
2004: 10.1%
2005: 10.4%
2006: 10.7%
2007: 11.4%

This year 2008, around 9%

Ideal rate targeted by the current Chinese government is 8% or so. and these several years, the faster than ideal rate is mostly due to the hot money inflow that gambling for Yuan appreciation.

Although don't get me wrong, nowadays in China, GDP is nick named as "Chicken's fart" due to the similar Chinese pronunciation. That should tell you what ordinary Chinese think of this Western invented statistics, it is nothing but a joke!
