It doesn't - it is merely one example of a major media outlet being honest about its coverage.

Time has put Obama on the cover 7 times vs. McCain's two, in spite of McCain having been a political figure for 6x longer.

There is plenty of data that leaves the issue unambiguous for those who care to look.
