I would agree, except where is this significant public involvement? Gold still was barely in the consciousness of the vast majority of investors. What transpired when gold hit $1000 was akin to when gold hit the low $200s in 1978ish, to my way of thinking.

In 1979 and 1980, I heard gold talked about every day, and I had no money myself! I was a student, and yet it was a daily thing to hear about gold, and to hear others talk about buying it.

Doesn't mean this isn't a sucker bounce. However, I would think it's from other forces than the little guy.
