I doubt if any other Republican could have won this year - I think McCain can do it. I still don't like McCain, but I think that choosing Palin was a very smart decision, and one that will win him the election. Aside from solidifying the GOP base, she will pull in a lot of libertarian voters who would either vote for Barr or sit the election out. In addition, I think a lot of independents will be quite attracted to a breath of fresh Alaskan air, air that's far removed from the stagnant stench of Washington DC...
