Political reality. Everyone who runs for the presidency has to take pragmatic postions. The reason is because the American people respond to negative advertising. Until the American people wake up and punish those who run negative campaigns which would quesiton an apponents patriotism candidates have to spin. 85% of the campaign ads of bush's last election were negative!!! Rove and company woud have accused OB of not caring about our national security if he had voted otherwise! And the american people would have agreed. he sidestepped a trap. Sort of like the stupid drilling idea that it will solve our energy independence. The American people believe that crap.
