The volatile issue of teaching creation science in public schools popped up in the Alaska governor's race this week when Republican Sarah Palin said she thinks creationism should be taught alongside evolution in the state's public classrooms. Palin was answering a question from the moderator near the conclusion of Wednesday night's televised debate on KAKM Channel 7 when she said, "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information."

Hmmm, perhaps we should be teaching some Native American creation stories too. And through the Hindu story while we're at it as well. Why should we be afraid of "information"?

Yummy, another Republican nominee who isn't that convinced by modern science, that should go over well in the red states but not quite as well in the purple areas.

Once the excitement wears off and the scrutiny machine cranks into high gear, we probably aren't going to find much "there" there.

I still think she would be a good candidate for Stevens' Senate seat, but I don't see any experience that takes her beyond being a neophyte legislator in DC. Certainly not a sudden President the day McCain has a stroke and Russia starts making aggressive moves on their borders again.

Oh gag me
So we turn our science classrooms in to RE?

I don't think so.

McCain has made similar statements as he cozied up to the rightwing, so that does not change much actually.

But you left out the rest.

“Teach both,” Ms. Palin was quoted as saying during the debate. “You know, don’t be afraid of information. Healthy debate is important, and I am a proponent of teaching both.”

Ms. Palin told the newspaper at the time, however, that she would not push to add creationist views to the state school curriculum. Mr. Fry said the governor had not supported any such proposal during her time in office.
