I had to get away from politics this afternoon and I'm finding it so cynical how many Palin supporters there are here today, how people like you and Glen Peterson and Jrhana run over here to pump her up when you barely know her...after Obama gave one of the best presidential candidate speeches in American history, has run one of the most effective campaigns in American history, whose biography was reviewed just last night and has been interrogated since tbe 04 convention...............................

I think its fair to say that Brushwud, Peterson, Jrhana, and McMannis are McCain supporters. They were just to eager to tout Palin's appointment as McCain's VP running mate.

Actually, the name of Sarah Palin has been bouncing around conservative circles for some months now. Last weekend, I mentioned her as a possible vice presidential candidate to some friends at a dinner party, but until this morning I thought that McCain would play it safe and select Romney, which was acceptable to me.

Is there an element of cynicism in the selection? Possibly, but do you really believe that Joe Biden is an agent of “change”? Do you really believe that Barack Obama would have selected Biden, a man who has spent over 30 years in the Senate, a man who is one of the ultimate Senate insiders, a man whose son who is a lobbyist, a man who is nicknamed “Slow Joe,” if the Russians had not attacked Georgia?

Successful politicians compromise. It seems to be a genetic trait, if not a desirable one, and Obama is no different. If politicians don’t morph and compromise, they become ex-politicians. As the campaign has progressed, Obama has found it expedient to alter many of his earlier positions, including those on the death penalty and gun control, in an attempt to position himself as a centrist, which he is not. He readily talks about his spirituality, which I believe to be real, yet he found it expedient to renounce his spiritual advisor, friend and mentor of 20 years.

Were you disappointed when Obama found it expedient to renege on his verbal agreement with McCain to accept public funding if the two of them won their respective nominations? Were you disappointed when Obama found it expedient to change his mind after he agreed to McCain’s suggestion that they hold a series of town hall debates during the summer? I’m sure that Obama regrets this last decision, as it made him appear timid and allowed McCain an opportunity to pound away at him.

Why hasn’t Obama more empathically distanced himself from the political corruption in Illinois? Probably because it has not yet become expedient. A prediction: I believe that Obama will find it politically expedient to forcibly renounce William Ayers by the end of September.

Do I wish that Palin had more experience? Absolutely. Do I wish that Obama had more experience? Same answer.

Obama gave a great speech last night, yet McCain managed to change the subject this morning. I am sure that Obama will try to return the favor next week.

By the way, who the hell is Glen Peterson?
