This certainly gives Sen. McCain the opportunity to say, "I think an effective energy policy, in all of its ramifications with the economy, is one of the most critical and immediate needs of the country, and here is my knowlegeable point person to lead an open debate with the Congress to craft one, unlike the effort conducted eight years ago."

He can thus reassure Americans this will not be another Cheney closed-door effort, but one that will be led by someone coming to it from a public policy point-of-view from a producing State, not an ex-pol coming directly from Halliburton as an industry plant.

I have not heard it asserted that Sen. Biden has any direct expertise in energy matters, and McCain can harp upon the distinction.
