Can a candidate ever change his mind in the middle of a campaign ?
Besides flip flop?

Can't recall any presidential candidate. In '72, McGovern started out with Thomas Eagleton, who turned out to have psych problems. Replaced with Sarge Shriver, Maria's pop, and first head of the Peace Corp. Which makes my McG/Shriver buttons worthless, but my McG/Eagleton one priceless (to me).

The only candidate I know of that withdrew was Tom Eagleton in 1972, because he had mental health treatments, it was revealed. Nobody else in modern times has withdrawn, AFAIK.
