I believe the rise of religion into politics in America will be it's downfall.

Now we are on common ground. Goldwater ground in fact.

Reconcile that with the McCain Palin ticket, which would be a continuance of the religion encroachment begun under the Bush administration.

I don't think there is a rise in the increase of religion and politics. In fact I would say that religion is probably less influential on politics today then at any time in our history.

Just look at the Civil War. The abolitionists were mostly religious folks. The battle hymn of the republic was the marching song of the northern army, you know "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord" Sunday blue laws were the norm, abrotion was illegal, etc. There was school prayer and public displays of mangers and no one thought twice about it. I am not expressing an opinion regarding the right and wrong of it, just the facts.
