Barbarians can steal gold and silver at gunpoint. They can't steal Qi even with a gun. Shooting their victim would ensure they don't get it. Threatening the victim wouldn't get it either [other than minor cash reserves and then escape and use of it would be a big problem]. They can't dilute or counterfeit Qi either. But they can dilute gold by digging more or filtering it from the ocean.

What do people want? How much stuff do people want? Various religious people aim to want nothing. Some people want everything such as private 777s or 380s, Larry Ellison's Katana or the latest and greatest whatever it's called.

There are some interesting trends, all of which lead to more efficiency, which is not to say necessarily using less [a more efficient engine can mean people choose a bigger SUV].

Your container of oil is large. But not as large as the container needed to hold all the flora and fauna which fall dead each day around the world [including those in the ocean].
