Palin completely captured the media spotlight less than 24 hours after Obama's acceptance speech and has set Republican enthusiasm on fire. The Obama campaign has been caught completely off guard by Palin's selection and suddenly the female factor is once again in play. * * *

I agree with you. Initially, I only knew about her by name, no details. Now, the more I learn about her, her family, her political life the more I am impressed. IMHO Palin represents everything Americans of my age yearn to return too. jdn

"Authentic". This is another word that people used on the ship we were on while in AK....The Alaskans see that in her, and the shipmates we talked to, EVEN the ones who were probably Democrats were surprised to learn of her selection, and that their initial response was favorable. Most everyone on the ship tried hard not talk about politics, as really, there were people on it that were not only from all over the US but from all over the world. But things just came out in the open when the Palin was made. One man from Maine, said at a special Brunch yesterday, "Well, wasn't this the Democratic convention week?" We all said Yes.... He blurted out..." Good, and I didn't watch a day of it"!!! .... Made all of us laugh, and it opened the floodgates... Looks like it did the same thing here on SI....
