Hey, if you found any of my comments, I'm focused on the supreme court, and I know who Obama would appoint and who McCain would appoint (after all, McCain has told us which supreme appointments he could copy)- and that's the basis for my vote.

All the rest of my comments are just speculation on what surrounds the supreme court appointments- for me those are critical.

Stan, the candidates themselves have spoken about all those topics over and over and over in thousands of words out there on the record.

Guessing how much is sincere and what they will actually do is just another form of handicapping. No candidate ever governs exactly as they promised, that's just how reality works out.

are they telling the truth; what will they do once they are elected: what do they believe; what policies will they advocate?; how will they govern? What will be their approach to the difficult problems or the day?

THe RW seems to be doing far more of the pictures with a Harley, check out the short skirt, look at her with this machine gun! type stuff.

I do think an attempt is being made to ask those questions here given the limited info everyone has. WE've all been reading and dragging it all over here to sort through.

Truth? Isn't that exactly what was being discussed over the bridge issue? Beliefs- her extreme conservative views, but also her choices through her life. Because what else is there? SHe hasn't travelled, gotten advanced education, had a real job. She has knowledge of the oil issues, but is connected to oil. Her natural gas line decisions have been very controversial.

I went looking for Palin and alternative energies on her issues page, and her goals are about oil and gas, and more drilling. I am guessing she is completely Alaska oriented, and hasn't thought much about a real energy policy.

Her religion concerns me, frankly. You don't get more fundamental and pentecostal than Assembly of God. Well, unless you handle snakes maybe. And her imposing a Christian Heritage Week strikes me as a thinly veiled attempt at imposing her beliefs by way of her position. The fact that the Evangelicals are so thrilled says quite a lot.

As for what she knows, how she thinks, how she would govern-- tabula rasa right now, for the most part. Storiies will emerge about how she works with people, I;m sure-- from her part time job as mayor..

>>I just plowed through the last 200 plus postings on this thread, most concerned with the Presidential contest.<<

Stan -

On this thread, that's less than two days worth of posts. For most of the weekend we've been talking about Sara Palin, whether or not she's qualified to be President, whether she's been honest about the Bridge to Nowhere, how very conservative her views are, etc.

I'm not sure what your beef is.

If you want to discuss issues you feel are more substantive, feel free to bring them up.

- Allen

But this is a political contest. What matters is what is missing from the discussions: are they telling the truth; what will they do once they are elected: what do they believe; what policies will they advocate?; how will they govern? What will be their approach to the difficult problems or the day?

Precisely.
