I do hope this doesn't become a soap opera circus a la Jerry Springer.

Steve, as for what the trooper has to say, this story is, no doubt, mixed full of all sorts of ugly and not so ugly stuff from all sides. I'm sure you've been around serious divorce fights and know that what's said is best left in the court room or in the advocacy process.

I doubt we'll ever know if the Palins or Wooten told the truth; nor will know whether those first level investigations were well done (you can argue they were official and thus were; you can also argue that it's most likely an old boy's network that does them, which tends to protect it's own.)

But what seems glaringly obvious is that she fired Mohegan because he was not doing what she wished with Wooten. Then lied about it. Which fits a similar pattern with the police chief and library director when she was mayor.

That part doesn't look good.

But there are issue positions that are worth examining as well. Chris Dodd, just on CNN, made the following two points: (1) if "my friend, John" wants to appoint a woman, there are far more qualified women in the Rep Party--Elizabeth Dole, Kay Bailey Hutchison, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, the woman who is governor of Connecticutt (name escapes me), etc; but (2) "my friend, John" went weak at the knees about the religious right--this is an appointment dictated by Dobson, Limbaugh, and Robertson.

Good political points.
