Reading Fred Thompson is a reminder of quickly Republicans can wildly build and then turn away from heroes.

Suma -

Fred is stretching this just a bit.

Palin served four years on the Wasilla City Council, '92 to '96.

She then served two terms as Mayor of Wasilla. '96 to 2002. That gives her ten years in the city government of a town with a population of less than seven thousand.

In 2002 she ran for Lieutenant Governor and lost.

In 2003, she was appointed to the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, where she served about one year before resigning over concerns about the ethics of the other people on the commission. For this, I give her credit.

Now, add the less than two years she has been Governor of the State of Alaska. Well, it does add up to 13 years "in government."

I'm just not sure it's the equivalent of 8 years in the Illinois State Legislature and three and a half years in the US Senate, where Obama has served on the Foreign Relations Committee, much less somehow "better."

When you consider Obama's superior education, including the study of Constitutional Law, and his work as a community organizer, I think you have to conclude that his qualifications for national office exceed Palin's.
