I carefully specified a caveat for those who have other resources. It could be a husband with less demanding work, a nanny, a granny. Unfortunately, those resources aren't readily available.

I think your question is a bit of a red herring. If you have an 80 hour mom and and 80 hour dad, you don't have good parenting. It hardly matters which of them is shortchanging the kids. I do take your point that it's inappropriate to dump that problem on the mom.
