I think it would have been better if he'd said "child", but I agree, that's being picky- and requiring Carter to be a fortune teller about what the RW would do with his comments.

This has been my stance all along: no. Refer to him as a boy. Period. Leave race out of it. If people did this, race would gradually fade into the background.

I started thinking this when Denzel Washington was cast in The Pelican Brief. He was great for the part. In the book, the character was white. See? It made NO difference. Speak to the person, not the color.
