More remarkable in that of the 90-something people who have been nominated by major parties to be President of this country, Obama is the first one who is not a (completely) caucasion male.

Also more remarkable because prejudice against black people does exist. Even in this day and age there are people who openly say either that they will never vote for a black man for President, or that the country "isn't ready" for a black President. Thus, Obama had more to overcome than, say, Bill Clinton did.
