"Possible, yes. If we can get the wealthy and the corporations to pay their fair shares. 75% of corporations pay NO income tax., do you think all your readers are stupid That is a very tough promise and I don't think the Pres has the power to enact it in 8 years. So, it is improbable. "

what BS propaganda,do you think all your readers are stupid. Those Corp are "s" corps and LLCs where the tax is passed though to the owners of the corp.

"S" corps by Law pay no tax, either do partnerships. The tax is passed though. I stop there because I figured the rest was also a lie

knighty, i'm not talking possibilities, i'm talking promises. i can promise god will rain down $100 bills from the sky if you elect me, and it is possible. but it is a dishonest promise.

1. want to bet we aren't even at 25% within 4 years or 50% within 8 years? how much? naw, forget it. it isn't a fair bet.

2. do you agree obama lied here to get elected for, uh, those he's lying to? remember, he isn't doing it for himself, right?

3. we'll see. i'll be waiting for my premiums to drop. i'm not inclined to believe they will as we've been papering over social security and medicare with general fund monies for a long time. if they get extra, they'll need to pay back the general fund or it becomes harder and harder to lie to people about the debt. also, govt is grossly inefficient. california has increased spending 40% in 5 years and is still running a $15 billion deficit. +40% in 5 years - oh and school enrollment is DOWN 75k students compared to 5 years ago and the drop out rate in LA is between 30-40%.

4. why do you suppose obama is lying to the people he claims to want to help?

knighty, i believe you mispelled "realist." i take in information and crunch it to its logical conclusion. it is what i do for a living. problems aren't solved with "hope."

in fact, i'd argue "hope" is the essence of what the wall street hacks sell to their clients at the top of an obvious stock market bubble. i bet more than one of them would consider your views on their profession "cynical," too. i think we'd both agree your views on the investment industry are realistic, not cynical. do you see the correlation?

real problems are solved in the context of reality. you even admit that obama is a liar... and i'm the cynical one? why, because i expect to treated honestly and with respect, not with a big show and lies?

mccain is dirty, too, as are all big league politicians. i could shred arnold the taxinator's republicrook lies for days. he's still out lying every day to get his agenda across.

i'm mostly beating on obama because he's gonna win. ;-)

who cares about the loser? if i thought mccain was gonna win, i'd haul out all his lies.

i know it hurts to realize the two requirements for president are 1. they have to lie and 2. they have to be able to lie with sociopathic authenticity. these same two qualities would disqualify a minimum wage earner from being hired. how sad that we expect more integrity from minimum wage workers than we do from our president. don't blame the messenger, though. i just speak what i think is the pretty obvious truth.

if someone is peeing on your leg, i'm not the right guy to tell you that it is raining.

at some point, those who hear the lies and know the lies have to speak up and say "lies," or the liars win more easily - and that isn't good, is it? sure, the liars will win anyway, as lies are what people are all about, but maybe the "hey, this really isn't right" light bulb goes off in someone's head. or not.

you wouldn't pay someone minimum wage who you knew lied to you about their job capabilities during an interview... so let's see how voting in a president based upon lies works out. the last one didn't work out so well.

remember, the bushevics promised the most ethical government ever. how'd that work out, bushevic supporters? personal lawyer for the scotus? i'd laugh, but i can't.

KT,

The only way to get premiums (and medicare spending) to drop is to insure less things. That couldn't be more obvious.

6 weeks ago I started hearing a little ringing in my ears. It was a minor annoyance, but nothing significant because 95% of the time I'm not even aware of it.

I went to the doctor. He didn't see any wax or an infection. So he sent me to an ENT. The ENT did 3 costly tests and found nothing. So now I am going for an MRI and Doplar. It's almost comical how much all this shit is going to cost. If it were up to me and out of my pocket, I would have stopped at the first doctor unless the condition worsened. But heck, it's not going to cost me anything above my $15 co-payment so why not err on the side of caution and perhaps fix it.

Years ago, you just lived with this shit.

Now everyone thinks they are entitled to everything.

There is no shortage of companies and doctors willing to find new fangled and even more expensive ways to provide healthcare as long as someone is willing to pay for it.

Insurance companies don't care because they are simply pass through mechanisms.

Government doesn't care because the dirt bags in power have no problem making more and more promises we can't afford and that probably don't make any sense to begin with just to get elected.

I don't care because for $15 the most logical and economic thing to do is to get the tests.

Stop insuring as much and everything changes. Perhaps the quality of healthcare would take a small hit, but we would get much better value for the dollar and be forced to live within our means.

Hi mike,

you wrote-
" I believe that in 10 years we could be totally independent from Middle East oil."

If by the you mean we could reduce our dependence on oil to the extent that we use the same percentage less that we currently import from the ME then I agree.

Here's a well researched topic on what may be the 'easiest' way to lap off a bunch of our oil usage:

theoildrum.com

Of course, that is only the lowest hanging fruit. There are undoubtedly many others. Check out the story in the NY Times about the use of cars powered by natural gas in Utah.

nytimes.com

This would be nice, but you have the old chicken and the egg problem. No private business is going to put in the infrastructure without some sort of guarantee that the gov't will subsidize(if necessary) the extra cost of the autos(not that it's that much). This is exactly where the dems shine and the conservatives won't. They'd rather 'stay the course' until this nation is bankrupt, rather than dither with their well heeled special interest donors.
